Paint Adhesion Testing
Paint & Coating Pull-Off TestingMore info
The adhesion of paint or a coating to a sub-strate is widely accepted as an indication of the competence of a coating process. Low adhesion values are often due to inadequate surface preparation.
Hammond Concrete stock the Elcometer® 510 automatic pull-off adhesion gauge with hydraulic action which ensures a smooth and continuous pressure is applied. Suitable for metal, wood, concrete and other substrates. The Elcometer® 510 is handheld, powerful (up to 100mPa), durable ( to IP64), accurate (+/-1% of full scale) and efficient.
ASTM D4541 + BS EN ISO 4624
The pull-off adhesion test for paints and coatings is undertaken by gluing an aluminium dolly to the coated surface then perpendicularly pulling the dolly from the substrate.
The force required and the mode of failure is a measurement of the adhesive properties of the coating.
